T HE APPARENT RELATIVE VISCOSITY (ARV) of blood usually decreases as the hematocrit decreases. 4 However, the data described in the following report indicate that the ARV will increase if hematocrit is duced by exposure of blood to anticoagulants, like citrate, which induce erythrocyte shrinkage.5 A similar phenomenon has been reported by other workers,6 but appears to have attracted little notice.
